Car Mechanics (UK) - - Your Letters -

I read your piece on the loss of steering in a Vauxhall Combo (Tales from the Workshop, July 2018) and thought ‘scary’ was too mild a word! Thinking about this failure leads me to believe that any vehicle losing its steering at a speed above 30mph would have a very high risk of death for the driver or a pedestrian.

Even with total brake failure, you could at least avoid obstacles by steering away from them. I think this type of sudden steering failure should necessitate a vehicle recall and am sure that Vauxhall or vehicle watchdogs would want to know about it.
