David Tay­lor writes: We re­ceived the photo be­low from reader An­thony Perry show­ing a bizarre mo­tor­ing gad­get he found in a shed, still in its orig­i­nal box. Ac­cord­ing to the la­bel at­tached to the box, it’s a Tech­ni­tooter, de­scribed as an “Im­proved Ital­ian pat­tern wolf whis­tle and anti-thief de­vice”.

Ap­par­ently it works through suc­tion and is at­tached by drilling and tap­ping the in­let man­i­fold of the en­gine, con­nect­ing the Tech­ni­tooter us­ing the sup­plied pipe. To use it as an anti-thief de­vice, you sim­ply “pull the cord and wind (it) round a con­ve­nient knob on the dash.”
