Broken bracket

-

This 2014 Citroën C3 III had developed a knocking sound from the rear of the vehicle, with every lump and bump in the road accompanied by a bang from the back. Inspecting the car, the owner noted that the rear exhaust pipe seemed to be floating around more than it should and correctly came to the conclusion that this was causing the noise.

When we got the C3 on the ramp, we could see that the rear exhaust bracket, which should be supporting the back-exhaust box, had corroded through and was no longer keeping it steady. You might think that all that was needed was a new bracket, but although the brackets are fitted separately to the exhaust box from new, a replacement is not available.

On the replacement exhaust box, the mounting supports are welded directly to the exhaust. As this was the original one-piece system, the rear box needed to be cut off in the correct position to enable the replacement rear box and exhaust to be fitted.

?? ?? The bracket was all that was broken, but a whole new rear box was needed.
