Verdict
It’s easy to dismiss the Focus as an unimaginative default choice in the family hatchback sector, but that would be a mistake. You’ll hardly stand out from the crowd, but you’ll be buying a car that not only offers impressive comfort and practicality, but that’s a sweeter drive than any rival. They steer, handle and ride with aplomb, and are as entertaining on a B-road as a motorway. The Focus isn’t the paragon of reliability you’d hope for, but there’s thousands to choose from, so buy carefully and enjoy one of the most accomplished family motors around.
