Aside from the explanations in the step-by-step clutch change procedure, there are some additional points to note.

On the Getz, as with many front-wheel drive cars, many of the procedures have to be carried out from below the vehicle, including removing and refitting the driveshafts. This requires partial dismantling of the front suspension/steering set-up. One way to do this is to separate the lower part of the hub assembly from the lower suspension arm’s ball/ swivel joint using a balljoint separator, to allow the lower end of the suspension hub to be moved outwards and provide sufficient room for the driveshaft to be withdrawn. This always takes time and there’s a risk of damaging parts, especially the balljoint gaiters, when using a conventional balljoint separator. If you do decide to work this way, it’s a good idea to order new gaiters or even balljoints, before you start. Then if these parts are needed, they will be available ready to fit. The alternative method we employed with this Getz was to unbolt each hub assembly from its respective suspension leg, rather than disturbing the lower ball/swivel joints. This avoids using a balljoint separator, with its attendant risk of damaging the balljoint gaiter or the joint itself.

The Getz 1.4 featured here is a 2006 petrol model. If your Hyundai is earlier or later, or has a different engine/transmission, consult the workshop manual relating to your specific model for possible variations and data specific to your car.
