Hydraulic Valve Lifter Treatment GENERAL

-

I can’t find instructions on using Wynn’s Hydraulic Valve Lifter Treatment. Do you pour it into the engine oil, run the car for 100 miles or so and then perform the oil change? Or do you change the oil first and then pour in the Wynn’s additive? Dinkar Jhalera The directions I have from Wynn’s are to add the contents of the bottle to the engine oil when the engine is warm, then to operate the vehicle normally. One bottle will treat 3-6 litres of engine oil. As the additive is not a flushing agent, it can be left in the system until the next regular service. Provided the engine oil is not in a terrible condition, I would add it to the oil and continue to run the engine for around 1000 miles.

If the engine oil does need changing immediately, I would change the oil and filter, then warm up the engine as instructed and add the Wynn’s. It can then be left in the system. The only word of caution I would add is that it should not be added to the oil at the same time as an oil change, but only poured in afterwards, once the engine and oil are warm.

An AGM (absorbent glass mat) battery is designed to hold its charge for a longer time than a standard lead-acid battery and, due to its design, it is less likely to gas when charging, making it a safer choice. The construction of the battery allows the electrolyte to be suspended close to the active material of the plates, enhancing its charge and discharge rate. The battery can suffer if it is allowed to discharge below 50% of its capacity before being recharged. The increased pack pressure within the battery makes the battery less likely to suffer from damage due to vibration.

An EFB (enhanced flooded battery) is, in effect, a budget version of an AGM battery and gives many of the features of the AGM at a lower cost. While not having glass mat technology, it does benefit from a higher carbon content in the manufacturing process, giving it a longer life than a standard wet battery.

Neither AGM or EFB batteries have a memory, so this does not impair the charging process.

The CTEK XS7000 is a professional charger and incorporates pulse maintenance. It is suitable for lead-acid batteries, MF (maintenance free), AGM and most Gel batteries; as an EFB is an advanced form of lead-acid battery, it will be suitable for this. Most stopstart system batteries can be charged on the vehicle with a modern smart charger by connecting directly to the terminals. The battery monitor systems will normally only need attention if the battery is replaced.
