Alarm light

-

The red alarm light on the top centre of the dashboard of my 2004 Jaguar S-TYPE 3.0 has been on for months, not flashing but glowing continuously. I have tried locking the car with both remotes and manually, to no avail. Recently, the battery was replaced and I hoped that reprogramming the new battery might induce some sort of reset, but the alarm light remains illuminated.

The red LED at the top centre of the dash should indicate that the immobiliser is operational by flashing. As the vehicle starts and drives OK, and as the light is solid and not flashing, the immobiliser is not operating and there’s a problem with the system.

I suspect the problem may be within the dash-pod itself, possibly due to a poor connection or failed printed circuit. It may also be the LED bulb itself causing the fault. Another possibility is that there is a short circuit in the wiring loom to the dash-pod, possibly due to water ingress. This may be revealed by opening up the outer sheathing on the loom, but remember to reseal this after inspection.
