CD player operation

-

There’s a recurring problem with the multi-cd system in my Jaguar X-TYPE. I have attached images of the screen I have when using the CD changer system – I get a message saying it’s playing when it’s not, although the CD magazine is full. Although the plastic retention clips have snapped on the plug connection at the back of unit, it is held firm with two cable ties pulled as tight as possible. When I use the radio and single-cd option within the main dash unit it works OK, even if using a disc from the magazine within the boot-mounted loader. I tried another loader, but the same thing happened.

As you have tried two loader units without resolving the problem, the only question I would ask is whether you used the same magazine? If you did use the same magazine, it could be defective.

The other possibility is a problem with the audio connectivity module (ACM), if you have this facility fitted. The ACM emulates the CD changer if selected and is located in the centre armrest. It could be that the switch is being knocked inadvertently or that the unit has become faulty.

There is a small blue LED on the unit and, if the CD changer is selected, this should flash; if the ACM function is selected, the light will remain solid. When the function selector is changed, the ignition needs to be cycled off and on in order for the audio system to recognise the change.

If the problem is not connected with the ACM, and as you have tried a replacement loader, I would check the connecting cable for any defects.

Resetting the immobiliser may rectify the problem, but this can only be done using dealer-level equipment. It would be interesting to know if the

immobiliser system is working, but you could only confirm this by using a key which did not have a chip corresponding to the active system in the vehicle.
