S60 bodywork

-

Q: I have a 2001 Volvo S60 2.4. The bodywork has developed discoloured patches as a result of age and pigeon droppings. What are the coatings and paint layers on the body and can I improve it myself? Mike Evans

A: The paint on your vehicle will most probably have a colour base layer protected by a clear lacquer. Unfortunately, once the paint has been damaged by the acidic content of bird droppings, there is little that can be done to fully restore the finish other than respraying the area. If the patches are more of a discolouration than a result of the paint being eaten through, you may be able to restore the lustre with a product like T-cut Color Fast.
