A new test module has been launched at autotechnician.co.uk, the website that allows mechanics to test their knowledge of vehicle systems and theory for free.

The Autotech Electrical Test 8 consists of 15 questions for you to assess your understanding of basic electrical circuits and the methods and techniques used to test them. This includes your ability to predict test outcomes, calculate values and draw diagnostic conclusions. This new test module was devised by Autotechnician trainer Andy Crook of Gotboost, the specialists in performance engine tuning and ECU remapping. Andy explains: “The scenario is based on a diesel Audi with a starting fault – a job that we have fixed here at Gotboost – so represents the real-world challenges technicians face when testing electrical circuits.”

For any automotive mechanic or technician, it can be difficult to evaluate any shortcomings in your skills or knowledge – sometimes it can be obvious, sometimes it is more subjective.

Once you are registered at Autotechnician, you have access to a range of free online multiple-choice tests covering a range of specific skill areas. Once completed, the score sheets marked with the correct answers are instantly emailed back to the participant, along with supporting learning material. This will help the technician to identify where they can improve their skills, which can be addressed with a combination of on-the-job training and suitable training courses.

To register or log in to take the test, visit the Autotechnician dedicated website at autotechnician.co.uk/registration
