BULKHEAD DRAINS

E60 and E61 cars have an occasional problem where the bulkhead drain can block, leading to rainwater seeping behind the dashboard and into the footwell. The pictured car – not our project 5-Series – has the troublesome rubber drain grommet still fitted (shown here with the red square).

You can clean this grommet and refit it, but even if you simply remove it then rainwater still drains out and doesn’t cause a problem. Keeping the area free of leaves and cleaning under the engine ECU location box is a good idea, too.
