Trim & equipment

-

A straightforward model range kicked off with S trim, featuring 17-inch alloys, climate and cruise control, and front foglamps, while upgrading to SE added Hill Descent Control, an electric memory driver’s seat and powered folding mirrors. Splashing out on top-spec SE Lux meant leather upholstery, Nordic Oak wood trim, bigger wheels, a powered tailgate and rear parking sensors.

Prices ranged from £24,750-£34,995 and there were plenty of tempting options, including a panoramic glass roof, premium sound system and the Clean Zone Interior that improved air quality in the cabin. Late-2009 brought R-DESIGN trim with stiffer suspension and new exterior and interior finishes, while spending £999 bagged rear seat entertainment with a pair of seven-inch LCD screens, DVD players and wireless headphones and remotes.

For the 2011 model year, ES trim replaced S – equipment levels were similar – while upper trims benefited from extra kit. Specifications would become progressively richer over the years, with plenty more options offered. Notable additions were adaptive cruise control, the Volvo Sensus infotainment system – the ability to operate the touchscreen while wearing gloves was claimed as a world first – and a configurable Adaptive Digital Display using TFT screens for the instruments.

For 2015, the optional Inscription Package might have proved tempting, with its soft leather, walnut trim and 20-inch wheels. Or else there was the Ocean Race Edition, which offered special colours and trim, along with various Volvo Ocean Race references.

While the extra tech and equipment of later models makes them worth seeking out, you’re unlikely to feel shortchanged with any XC60.
