Verdict
There’s hardly a lack of choice when it comes to mid-size SUVS, but Volvo has always ploughed its own furrow and the XC60 holds plenty of appeal compared to premium-badged rivals. Not only does it look good but offers a great interior and a satisfying blend of comfort and versatility. Plus there’s an impressive roster of safety kit. Factor in a wide choice on the used market and a network of knowledgeable specialists and its case becomes even more convincing. Having said that, Volvo parts prices can be hefty, so be wary of cheap cars needing work.
Our pick would be a later, more frugal diesel paired with an automatic gearbox, but you’re unlikely to be disappointed whichever model you choose.
