Towbar

-

I have bought a rubber-bumpered 1978 MGB Roadster and would like to fit a towbar. Before I buy it, I would like to know if I have to take the tank down and the rear bumper off to fit it. Have you any other tips or advice regarding the fitting?

Stan Catton

Type approval for towbars was introduced in 1998 and, from this point, manufacturers were required to provide points for the fitting of the towbar. As your MG was made prior to this, there are no specified fitting points, so different manufacturers may use different methods to secure the towbar. The only manufacturer that I could find who makes a unit for your MG is Watling Towbars at this website: http://bit.ly/cm-tow

Lowering of the fuel tank is not required and the bar fits to brackets by the bumper fixings. However, as these towbars are made to specification, I would contact the manufacturer for precise fitting instructions.
