Q I have a 2010 Toyota Hiace 2.5 D4D with 114,000 miles. I am planning to service the vehicle, including changing the brake fluid and gearbox/ axle/engine oils. Can you tell me what grade of gearbox and axle oil I should use and whether this should be a GL4 or GL5? Are there any things to watch with regards to changing the brake fluid, in terms of ABS, etc? The engine oil filter looks difficult to access. I have bought a cup-type oil filter wrench – is this the best type to use? Access is very tight. Can you describe how to reset the service indicator once done? James Robbins A The oil recommendations for the gearbox and final drive are GL4 for the gearbox and GL5 for the axle. You can get the recommended specified oil by going to commaoil.com and entering the registration number. The oil filter is difficult to access on the Hiace and the cup-type wrench should help – I normally use a three-pronged type, such as the Laser 4892.

The service indicator is reset as follows: switch on the ignition and repeatedly press the trip button until ‘TRIP A’ is displayed. Switch off the ignition and then press and hold the trip button again, keeping it pressed while turning the ignition back on – the display should show ‘000000’. After two seconds, release the button and turn off the ignition.
