TURBOCHARGER FAILURE

-

This is a mechanical fault and the driver will notice that the car doesn’t have the performance punch it used to, It’s also possible there may be a slight puff of blue smoke from the exhaust. The problem lies within the turbocharger.

Frequent/regular engine oil changes always pay dividends, but on these engines it is absolutely critical. Always use fully-synthetic oil to the recommended specification.

New turbos are reasonably priced and easy to fit, but be wary of cheap parts. We recently fitted a customer-supplied turbo to one of these Saabs and, once fitted, the unit was blowing from all the joints, so it ended up being a very expensive fix.
