Lighting and electronics company HELLA has received the Automotive Innovations Award 2019 in the Powertrain category from the Centre of Automotive Management and the auditing and consulting firm PWC. The award honours HELLA’S new Dual Voltage Battery Management System, designed to convert compact and mid-range vehicles with internal combustion engines into mild hybrids.
Independent automotive test centre Thatcham Research has released security ratings for seven new cars, based on a series of security tests encompassing physical and digital security. The BMW 7-Series, BMW X7 and Porsche 911 all retained their Superior ratings through the introduction of motion-sensor-enabled fobs. For these, if the sensor detects the fob hasn’t moved for a short period, it idles and goes into sleep mode, preventing criminals with Relay Attack kits from extending the range of the communication between car and fob.
