Broken spring

-

►Feeling a resistance when pulling away the kerb, the owner of this 2005 Peugeot Expert van was concerned that he had a sticking brake. It was a good job that he didn’t drive too far as the resistance he was feeling was actually a broken road spring rubbing against the inner wall of the tyre. Driving much further would have resulted in the deflation of the tyre, leaving the van stranded.

At our workshop, we fitted a new spring and replaced the tyre. On the assumption that, if one spring had failed, the other was likely to do likewise in the near future, the owner asked us to replace the other side as a precaution, hopefully saving another tyre from being ruined unnecessarily.

?? ?? The rubbing spring had worn the tyre sufficiently to condemn it to the scrapheap.
