Cataclean
I intend to use Cataclean diesel engine fuel and exhaust system cleaner in my 2013 Skoda Fabia 1.6 TDI before its MOT. I’m concerned it may damage sensitive components such as the catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter. My local garage will not use additives or flushing agents, but do you have any views on this type of treatment?
In the past, I have used Cataclean in a number of vehicles with positive results and, from my experience, I would be happy to add it to the fuel system. Cataclean is specifically designed for vehicles fitted with a DPF and should assist in the regeneration of the unit without causing any damage. As with many additives, it is sometimes difficult to judge its true benefits, but I would not expect it to inflict any damage.
Many manufacturers and workshops have a blanket ban on the use of additives, but this is often simply to avoid making an individual assessment on a particular product.
