Interior mirror trouble

-

The owner of this 2012 BMW 520d was alarmed to come out one morning and find his rearview mirror hanging by the connecting wire. He could see no point for the mirror to fix back onto the windscreen and drove very carefully along to our workshop, with the hanging mirror gently swinging at every twist and turn of the road.

This is not an uncommon occurrence on the BMW 5-Series as the mirror is a fairly weighty object with all the extras it has to hold. The owner was hoping that we would just be able to stick it straight back onto the screen, but unfortunately the job requires specialist materials used by windscreen fitters. We unplugged the mirror to save the strain on the wiring loom, then called in our local windscreen fitters, who have the appropriate adhesive to ensure that, once the mirror is replaced on the screen, it won’t drop down again.

?? ?? The interior mirror had dropped off and the weight of the unit was straining the connecting cable.
