I have noticed an increasing number of cars being fitted with Chinese-made tyres. Just recently, I was a passenger in a Skoda Octavia taxi and the driver complained bitterly about the choppy ride. When we looked at the tyres, they had the correct pressures, but the sidewalls were very rigid. Closer inspection of the markings showed they were called Rapid, were made in China and claimed to have six plies – that’s the van standard! Later, my local tyre store said these Rapid tyres were very popular due to the low price. I think that explains a lot!
