DODGY DESCRIPTIONS

 Regarding your Editorial about illegal numberplates (CM, September 2019), these can be bought on ebay with no need to produce any ID or paperwork, sold as ‘show plates’.

Although suspect plates might be picked up during an MOT, there are other more serious things that might not. Chief amongst these, in my opinion, is cars that have been modified to the point where the engine has been replaced for one of a greater bhp, but the V5C hasn’t been updated accordingly, often giving rise to the claim in a sale advert of cheaper insurance. Again, on ebay, if you search for vehicles described as being ‘still registered as’, you’ll see what I mean. David Payne
