REVERSE ARGUMENT

-

Given Ian Potts’ views on reversing lights (‘Seeing the light’, Your Letters, September 2019) does he think headlights are there to warn other road users that you are coming towards them, not to see where you are going? I passed my driving test in 1962 and, in all of that time, I have never heard anyone express the same opinion on reversing lights.

When I started driving, not many cars were factory-fitted with reversing lights, so we bought kits with a manual switch and fitted them ourselves. This was to see behind us when reversing, not to warn other motorists. Richard Langdon
