DSG7 REINSTALLATION DIAGNOSTICS & TEST DRIVE
If you are refitting your original Mechatronics unit after it has been repaired, no setting or learning processes should be necessary. Otherwise, if a new unit is fitted, proceed as follows.
A basic adjustment is necessary to set the initial clutch and gear tolerances. You will need more advanced diagnostics than a basic code reader, such as VCDS. The checks must be carried out in situations where the Transmission Control Module (TCM) is clear of fault codes, the transmission oil temperature is 30-60°C, the gear lever is in ‘P’, the parking brake is applied and the brake pedal depressed.
Select ‘02 Transmission Module’ and choose Group 60 in ‘Basicsettings-04’. The basic setting reading should be: 4 0 0. Start the engine and let it idle, if this is the case. You may notice ‘clacking’ noises emanating from the gearbox, as the adaptation takes place. After a maximum of six minutes, a successful basic setting procedure is indicated by a live data reading of 254 0 0. Switch off the ignition, then switch it on after several seconds have elapsed. Then perform a fault code check and clear any codes. Should the basic setting fail, contact ECU Testing’s customer service for advice.
Conduct a test drive afterwards to allow any remaining adaptations to take place. ECU Testing recommends this procedure:
With the gear lever in ‘D’, apply half throttle until 2nd gear engages.
Stop and repeat.
Stop, select ‘R’ and drive backwards. Brake to a halt, release brake, then drive backwards again.
Stop and accelerate in 'D', selecting all the gears via the ‘manual’ paddle shifters, staying in each gear for no less than three seconds.
Using the ‘manual’ paddle shifters again, attain an engine RPM of
2000-4500rpm for 1-2 minutes in 4th gear, using differing throttle positions, including one full throttle application.
Then repeat the previous instruction in 5th gear.
