REBUILDING

-

Here’s the replacement secondhand engine bed, complete with suspension components and a steering rack. It was dismantled so the engine bed could be fitted on its own, followed by the other parts.

Eurojag prefer to fit the coilovers before fitting the engine bed. They fitted the engine bed with the lower arms attached, and secured the bottom of the coilovers to them once the engine bed had been manoeuvred into position.

A replacement offside front wing was removed from a scrap XF at Eurojag and trial-fitted. Next, the replacement bonnet was fitted, followed by a new front bumper, front brakes and a road wheel.

The part-reassembled XF was sent to a local bodyshop to have all its exterior replacement parts painted. Here’s the XF before it was transported to the bodyshop. All of the parts shown in the foreground are the damaged components that we’ve removed.

Upon its return, most of the parts were still attached, except for the front bumper, which had to be assembled with headlight washers, grilles, fog-lights and other trim. Placing the grille face down on bubble wrap helped to protect its paintwork.

After refitting the front bumper, the replacement brakes that had been fitted prior to the respray were changed for new discs and pads all round. The caliper carriers were also cleaned.

Inside the front offside inner wing, the windscreen washer pump’s wiring was modified by cutting it, soldering it together and wrapping it in electrician’s tape. XFS from 2011 have a major problem where water is drawn up the wiring and into the fusebox.

The windscreen washer reservoir was refitted into the offside front inner wing, followed by a replacement inner wheelarch liner. On the nearside, the original wheelarch liner was refitted.

A replacement sill cover, now painted, was secured to the offside sill using new crosshead screws and their plastic plugs. This had to be fitted once the XF was back on its wheels.

The final few items were added, including some sound-deadening material to the underside of the bonnet and decals on the offside front wing. Finally, the XF was driven out of the workshop.

And here’s the repaired and rebuilt XF, reassembled using a combination of new and used spares from Eurojag. After an MOT test and several test drives to ensure it was safe, this car was put up for sale and was bought by an employee at Eurojag.
