Air filter removal

-

I have a 2007 Skoda Roomster

1.4 and want to install a new set of spark plugs. I'm wondering how to take off the air filter – it is housed in a long box and the plugs seem to be underneath it. There are strong grommets holding it on, so I'm wondering if it has to come off before I can replace the plugs?

I have another problem with the electric window winders. They don’t last any length of time! I have had three winders on the driver’s side since I bought the vehicle at two-years-old. What's causing this?

There are two possible engines that may be fitted in your Roomster, with either the code BXW or BUD. Both have the same air filter housing, which sits on top of the engine.

To remove the housing you'll need to disconnect the large inlet duct by depressing the two locating catches and pulling it away from the filter. The hose from the non-return valve should then be removed and the air filter housing should lift upwards and away from the engine. The fixing grommets are tight and it will take a strong tug to detach them.

Once the air filter housing has been removed, the individual ignition coils will be visible. To remove these, you will need to first undo the connecting plugs by releasing the small tab in the connector and pulling the connector off. The coil packs will then need to be gently levered upwards to release them from the cylinderhead.

Although issues have been reported with these electric window motors, the main problem is either due to failing switch packs or due to water entering the door and causing the failure of the motor. When the motor is replaced, the cause should be assessed – if it is due to water entering the unit, this problem should be addressed.

I am assuming you are having the units replaced with genuine VAG parts and I would have expected these to last much longer. I would also ensure your window channels are clean and that the glass is not struggling to move within the channel. Using a silicone lubricant spray in the channel will ensure smooth running of the glass and may prolong the life of the window motor.
