Locking problem

-

Can you give me some advice on the key fob for my 2014 Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI estate? I have always used just the section on the key-fob showing an open padlock to unlock the vehicle (one press for the driver’s door, two presses for all the doors including the tailgate). Currently, the tailgate won’t unlock using this method, but it does unlock when using the centre section of the fob (which shows a picture of the tailgate) by holding the section down for a few seconds. This all seems correct in some ways, but why has the tailgate stopped unlocking in the original way? Has something gone wrong? If I need to access the mechanism of the lock can you advise me how to remove the interior trim panel? I cannot see any plugged or covered screws.

It is common that the central locking system can sometimes develop such problems over time. The settings can be altered from the main menu on the dash and it may be worth resetting the options. There are a couple of different ways to access the menu depending on whether your vehicle is fitted with a multi-function steering wheel. These will be outlined in the driver's handbook.

By accessing the menu, you should be able to select the door locking options and reset them back to factory settings. If this does not work, the system may need to be reset using VAG software. If the tailgate fails to unlock altogether, there is an emergency release that can be accessed by placing the key in the slot in the interior rear trim panel, just above the lock.

If you do need to remove the rear tailgate trim panel, the only retaining screw is the one holding the handle. Once this is removed, the panel will need to be gently prised away from the tailgate. It is held in place by a ring of 14 securing clips, which are very tough and can be quite a challenge to remove.
