PASSAT CONFUSION

 There is some confusion over the relationship between the A4, the Passat and Superb. The 1996 VW Passat B5 was indeed based on the original 1994 Audi A4 B5. From the B5 Passat came the original 2001 Skoda Superb. However, the 2005 B6 Passat – despite sharing the B6 code with the 2004-onwards Audi A4, was in fact based on a stretched Golf MKV platform, meaning that it had a transverse engine and not a longitudinal (North-south) engine like our Audi.

This means that very few of the repair techniques on our A4 will apply to the VW and Skoda medium-sized cars.
