EOBD scanner

-

I have a 2008 Volkswagen Touran 1.9 diesel and a 2016 Beetle 1.2 petrol. I would like to get an EOBD scanner that will work on both cars. Is this possible? Although I’m an experienced home mechanic I’ve never dabbled in this area. All my previous cars were pre-1993, so this is a big jump in technology and complexity for me! Could you recommend a basic machine and maybe a more advanced one?

To answer your first question – yes, both vehicles are EOBD compliant and a basic EOBD scanner will work on both vehicles, but a basic EOBD unit will only read and clear engine codes. The Foxwell NT200 at £38.95 is very good value, and it can be found at this link http://bit.ly/ CMP4GEN. The unit will read and clear fault codes as well as reading freezeframe and live data.

Moving up to the next level, the Foxwell NT680 Lite 4 system scan tool will read and clear fault codes from the engine, ABS, SRS (airbag) and automatic gearbox, and reset service lights. It also has a service function for the electronic parking brake on many vehicles. It is currently £199 with free delivery and lifetime updates. Details at this link: http://bit.ly/2cmc9gen
