Typical Renault Clio components
The negative earth or ground
1
terminal of the battery is connected via the short cable visible in this shot to the front of the left-hand front suspension tower. It is vital that the connections are clean, sound and secure; frequently/ regularly check these aspects.
The positive terminal assembly
2
incorporates vital electrical fuses. Take great care if ever jump-starting to ensure that the correct specified procedures are adopted (consult the handbook), or you may blow a critical fuse. Always remember to connect the negative terminal last.
To the left of the battery (and in
3
the centre of this shot) is Renault’s UCH body control module assembly/ underbonnet fuse and relay box, incorporating a lid secured by two Torx screws (T27). Trouble can arise within this assembly. Keep moisture at bay!
The vehicle’s main ECU is located 4
high up towards the rear of the engine compartment, on the left-hand side, and attached to the left-hand front suspension tower. In this position it is out of the way of most road spray and airborne moisture.
A clean air filter element helps
6
the inherently efficient Renault diesel engine to breathe. This filter element has done its job and is due for replacement. Its housing is located at the top of the engine bay, left side. Release the lid’s two clips, withdraw element, clean debris/leaves from inside housing; install new element, re-fit lid.
This underbonnet fusebox/
5
junction box assembly is at the front of the engine bay, on the left side, and vulnerable to moisture/dirt penetration. Remove the cover and carefully clean the internal components. WEARING GOGGLES, gently wire-brush away corrosion from the main cable connection, and coat with silicone grease for future protection.
