Oil change

-

What’s your opinion about using a seven-litre Katsu Manual Oil Extraction Vacuum Hand Pump (model SKU 481507) to extract the engine oil from my 2015 Audi Q5 S line Plus 2.0 TDI Quattro? I am not as physically fit as I once was, so getting under a car to remove the sump plug takes a little bit of effort, so I thought this would be an easier option. Anyway, in my experience, oil is never removed fully via the drain plug – there’s usually a cupful left behind.

Also, I asked Audi for guidance in the use of Wynn’s diesel cleaning additives, but got no meaningful response. Do you think such additives are helpful in maintaining engine combustion and keeping the pistons, valves, DPFS, etc, clean? I drive fewer than 4500 miles annually. Tom Heron In America, you can get an oil change at many shopping malls. This is a speedy process done while you are shopping and, as far as I am aware, most of these quick service bays use the suction method for replacing the oil. Given the difficulties of removing undershields from some newer vehicles, I believe that many cars are designed for the oil to be sucked as opposed to drained out. For a few models, the dipstick has been replaced by a convenient tube into the sump. In fact, the smart car has no drain plug and the oil change is only possible using a suction device. With this in mind, I would be confident that the oil could be removed using your hand pump as easily as it would by draining the sump.

Audi does not recommend using any additives (unless, of course, they make them themselves). Because you cover a low annual mileage, I can understand your concern that the engine and exhaust system will suffer from carbon buildup. In your situation, I would use the Wynn’s diesel particulate filter cleaner, which should reduce soot emissions, as well as cleaning and regenerating the particulate filter. Wynn’s claims it helps stop soot forming in the combustion cycle and should reduce the need for manual regeneration of the DPF.
