DIY ANNUAL MAINTENANCE
Replace the cabin filter. Verify that the compressor engages and the aircon activates. Check that the cooling fans work and the cooling system is in good order. Inspect the condenser for leaks and accumulation of leaves.
Check the condition of all pipes and hoses for cracks and joints for signs of leaks.
Check that the condenser is mounted correctly, including the condition of its brackets.
Check the auxiliary belt, tensioners and FEAD drive system condition.
If fitted, check that the evaporator drain tube is unblocked.
Use an anti-bacterial air-bomb (pictured) to cleanse the evaporator body and vents of spores.
Professional aircon annual checks should include examining the refrigerant pressures on both the highand low-pressure circuits. More advanced maintenance includes evacuating and analysing the quantity of removed refrigerant, pressure-checking the system with nitrogen gas and checking for leaks before flushing the system, replenishing the correct lubricant type and quantity and recharging the system with the correct weight of refrigerant.
