Steering wobble

-

u Shelling out for tyres when the tread on the old ones is still good can be quite disheartening. No one likes to throw away a tyre when it should have had plenty of life left in it.

The owner of this 2012 Land Rover Discovery had felt a bit of a wobble on the front wheels when driving at motorway speeds. She asked me if I could just check out the vehicle to see if the wheels needed balancing.

The investigation didn’t take too long and, after a quick look around the tyres, I had the cause of the wobble identified – a large carbuncle caused by a chance meeting with a kerb during one of her less-than-careful parking manoeuvres. I’ve had to replace tyres on this particular vehicle in the past for a similar reason, but it appears that this lady is not for turning the steering wheel and just aims at the kerb instead.

?? ?? The bulge in the tyre from a poor parking attempt was the source of the unwanted wobble.
