Speed kills, points hurt

-

 During house arrest (aka lockdown) the roads were eerily quiet. However, those involved in the motor trade had a legitimate reason to be on the roads – we were keeping the country mobile. So, you’d think I’d have noticed the mobile camera van parked behind the bus stop on the grass verge filming the on-coming traffic coming around the bend. But no, my defence is that I was navigating the many potholes of the road.

The road, and I sound old when they I say this, was a field when I was a kid. It has been 60mph since inception. Except, exiting the industrial estate where our parts supplier is, having collected a battery, I never noticed it had turned to 40mph. En route to mooch at a closed Manheim auction, I was criminalised at 48mph. Speed kills folks.

I’m not unduly complaining; I’ve had a very good run over a quarter-century with a virgin licence that’s now, well, blemished. At least the NOP arrived after I’d had my innocent fun with the Jag featured above. Had this notice arrived before, maybe I’d not have enjoyed its performance and the empty roads with such abandon.

But at least I’m not alone. A colleague is in the same boat. We’re just hoping we both get the chance to go on a speed awareness course together – for moral support of course.
