Spare wheel

-

Q My son has a 2005 MINI One. It came with a jack, a wheelbrace, a compressor and tyre sealant. Is it possible to fit a spare wheel or spacesaver wheel in the compartment under the boot? The fitted alloys have 175/65/R15 tyres. Dave Fisher

A The spacesaver spare wheel option on the MINI was fitted beneath the boot floor, but this was only fitted to the MINI One and MINI Cooper R50. Other versions did not have the space available due to either a larger exhaust or the position of the battery. Many of the MINI range run on runflat tyres, which should allow you to travel to safety after a puncture. Although the replacement cost is higher, to my mind fitting a spare wheel would a better option than filling the tyre with goo!

A spacesaver is available from this website – https://bit.ly/2aplizo – which also lists a bag for the tyre as an option. If you do want to fit it in the correct position under the boot floor, you will require a few additional parts from BMW. These parts are listed at https://bit.ly/2q91iew, along with a diagram of their respective positions.
