Mandatory MOT testing reintroduced

-

From March 31, 2020 in England, Scotland and Wales, motorists could use a six-month extension to their vehicles’ MOT due date to avoid contact with others during the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the extension date has now been shorted to four months. That means any vehicle you own that has an MOT due date AFTER July 31, 2020 will have to stick to the original MOT date and won’t be part of any exemption/extension.

Those of you that have a car, LCV or motorcycle with an MOT testing date BEFORE August 1, 2020 can, if you feel it is appropriate, not visit a testing station for up to six months. For example, I still have the Car

Mechanics ex-project Peugeot 207 CC here with me and its MOT has just been extended to January 11, 2021 – it was due on July 11, 2020.

Of course, any vehicle you are driving during the extension period needs to be correctly maintained and kept in a roadworthy condition – and you can voluntarily get the MOT sorted sooner should you wish.
