In my garage
1995 Volvo 960 estate
The previous holder of the title of my most troublesome car, which just goes to show that even old Volvos have tantrums sometimes. However, the 960 now seems to have settled down into relative reliability, save for a tendency to sometimes randomly not start, which I’m assuming to some sort of fault with the inhibitor switch. Deep joy!
1994 Rover 216 SLI
My £150 Rover is currently proving the most useful all-rounder on my fleet, despite being dismissed in a Birmingham car park as a ‘piece of sh*t’ by somebody walking back to their own modern car that is probably costing them twice what I paid for mine in monthly PCP payments alone.
1993 Fiat Panda 1.1 Selecta
My other vehicle with a CVT transmission, although the one on this properly mini city car has behaved itself impeccably so far – fingers crossed. Fiat has always been good at small cars and this Giugiaro box-on-wheels is a superb way of economically nipping around the urban environment and stealing parking spots from larger cars.
1989 Saab 900 Turbo T16
Still off the road awaiting a gearbox part – which means that not only did it miss its own 30th birthday last year, but also not looking great for its 31st anniversary this year. Of course, COVID-19 hasn’t helped with getting it mended, given that it’s away from home. It will soon discover, though, that I’ve just bought another Saab 900 – this time a topless one!
