When it rains it pours

- REBECCA CHAPLIN reports

 It’s been particularly wet recently – that’s thrown-up some unpleasant issues with soggy cars. The easiest fix was on a car that had just been fixed – a Boxster with a new roof. It turned out the new roof leaked as much as the old one, just through where it had been repaired.

The other was a Mk1 Ford Focus, something I don’t usually have a lot to do with – so I was more surprised to find that this car didn’t seem to have any holes in it, also had wet carpets – but only on one side. Focus aficionados will probably be screaming at the page that this was down to the pollen filter and its seal coming loose. Thanks to some advice, that wasn’t too painful to sort.

The next to spring a leak was a Volkswagen Passat of a similar age. At this point I’m thinking the 2000s are well and truly over for me and cars from the turn of the century I’ll be avoiding with a large pole.

This time I get wet feet in the drivers’ footwell one morning after a heavy couple of days of rain. I was happy at least with this one that I knew cleaning-out the drainage holes under the battery would solve the problem and at least no extra parts were needed.

However, with all these wet carpets being hung up to dry it was starting to look a little like a GSCE Art installation around the place.
