Window operation

Q

The rear offside window will not close normally on my 2015 Lexus IS300H. When operating the switch on the doors, the window moves fully up, but then immediately moves down to onethird open. An error message on the dash reads ‘Window Opened’. I’ve checked for obstructions in the accessible part of the window frame, but there’s nothing obvious there. I figured out a temporary solution of inching-up the window, which allows it to close fully, but the error message still there. Allan Luskow

The action of the window moving back down is usually due to tightness or an obstruction in the mechanism or channel. I would try lubricating the window channel using a silicone spray such as this: http://bit.ly/cm8tdss

Opening the window and spraying the silicone lubricant liberally into the channel should ease the movement of the glass. If this does not cure the problem, and you are sure there are no other restrictions to the movement of the regulator, I would reset the window memory. This is done as follows: Switch on the ignition and lift and hold the window switch to fully close the window. Continue holding the switch in the up position for six seconds, then press and hold the window switch to fully open the window and continue to hold switch for two seconds. Lift and hold the window switch to fully close the window and continue to hold switch for two seconds. Switch off the ignition.

When carrying-out the first step, if the window still begins to open again, try step two first – push the window switch to the fully open position and hold the switch for two seconds. If this still doesn’t work, you may need to disconnect the 12V battery for around 30 seconds, then reconnect and re-attempt the procedure. If you do disconnect the battery, the other three windows will also need to be reset in the same manner.

If there is still a problem, the fault may be within the sensor built into the window motor, which can be checked with Lexus diagnostic equipment. In this case, the only solution would be to replace the motor.
