Locking wheel nut key location

-

▶ There are a couple of golden rules to remember when purchasing a preowned vehicle, one is to ensure you get the radio code, along with the key code and the vehicle documentation. A full service book is a good sign that the motor has been looked after. The other very important thing is to ensure that the vehicle comes with the locking wheel nut key and that you know where it is.

Having just recently purchased this 2004 Audi A6 3.0 from a private owner through the online ads, this customer was pleased with his purchase.

He had popped along for me to see the motor and give it a quick look over. It looked clean and for the 178,000 miles on the clock it sounded sweet. The service book showed that the timing belt had been replaced less than a year ago and so the new owner thought that an oil and filter change and a quick look at the brakes would ensure he was good to go till the next MOT.

Before he left the motor with me I asked where the locking wheel nut key was, to which he replied he had no idea but would find it before he went. I walked back in the workshop and left him to look. Fifteen minutes later he was still outside and was now on the phone.

He was trying to contact the previous owner but was having no luck so I asked him where he had checked. He began to run through all the usual places, glovebox, spare wheel, tool bag, etc. At this point, I thought, I would join in the search and immediately went to the draw under the driver’s seat, and there was the locking key, much to the surprise of the new owner who was unaware of the handy little drawer.

?? ?? The small drawer under the driver’s seat was a surprise to the new owner, but he pleased that the locking wheel nut key was in it.
