Sunroof trouble

-

QMy 1993 Astra Mk3 has a factoryfitted manual sunroof but the sliding sunshade jams part way back. Part of the trim seems to have broken or become unclipped, jamming the sunshade and prevents the roof from opening fully. Fortunately the roof closes. Information and help on Vauxhalls seems sparse and hope you can help or suggest a solution, maybe a company who specialise in sunroofs. I fear the headlining needs to be dropped to gain access. Frightening!

Whilst writing, what do you know about a company called Inalfa? I also have a 1995 Daimler Six, a Jaguar X300 with very pricey extras, fitted with an Inalfa sunroof and the tilt and slide mechanism has broken on one side – but parts are no longer available from Jaguar Classic Parts. I'm sure a company like Inalfa supplied sunroofs to other manufacturers of the time and parts may be interchangeable. I did email Inalfa and got a nice polite reply but they don't stock parts that old – annoying but understandable. Ronnie Mapes

AThere were two sunroofs used on the Astra, the Tudor-webasto and the Rockwell Golde unit. I believe as the Tudor-webasto roofs were mainly folding, it should be the Rockwell Golde unit in your vehicle. The Rockwell Golde company was purchased by Arvin-merritor.

Inalfa are as you have discovered still in business and it’s a shame that they do not continue to support the classic car market, which I am sure would be beneficial to their business. From the data I have it would appear that the part number you need is either HNA1752AA for the right side or HNA1753AA for the left side. After an extensive search for these parts I have drawn a blank on any availability. Both of these problems require the attention of a specialist sunroof repair company who may be able to offer a solution.

There are two companies who are, although not local to you, not too far and one of these may be able to help. They are www.surreysunroofs.co.uk in Dorking or www.thetrimmingcentre. co.uk in Brighton.
