Towbar & stuff

-

QCan you tell me where I can obtain a towbar for my 2015 Skoda Fabia 1.4 TDI? Also, can you tell me if there is a filter in the turbo on this model as I have an oil change due. Is there any info, either a fitting or a drawing, for this engine with reference to the timing belt? I require a starter/charger and have been told the GB40 1000A smartcharge would be a good one to get – can you confirm this will be OK on my Skoda? Can you advice on what the ‘key boxes’ are to protect my key fobs? I have found out that my wipers work only with the key out – even in the off position.

AUnfortunately, the registration number you supplied did not appear to give me the details of your Fabia and so as a 2015 model with the 1.4 TDI engine I am making the presumption it is the MKIII version. PF Jones are one company that can supply a towbar for your Skoda and there are variations allowing either a swan neck or detachable version. PF Jones can be contacted on 0333 772 0659 and are based in the Manchester area, but can supply by courier.

The turbo on your engine does not have a separate filter and only the engine oil and filter need to be changed as on most vehicles, the oil capacity I have for your Skoda presuming it is the CUTA engine code is 4.1 litres of 5W-30 low-ash oil.

Timing belt fitting instructions are included with Gates timing belts. As you have indicated to me that you do not use the internet I cannot guide you to any online sites for a workshop manual, and unfortunately it appears that at the moment a printed manual is not available.

The NOCO GB40 1000A is a Jump Starter and not a smart charger. The NOCO smart charger is the NOCO genius2 battery charger which will charge 6-volt and 12-volt batteries at 2-amps. Both units can be used on your Skoda.

A key box to protect the key fob is purely a box which will shield the key used in keyless-entry vehicles and prevent the passive operation from being detected and amplified for use in the theft of the vehicle. Any tin box to keep the keys in whilst indoors will do the job, and there are wire mesh pouches that can be purchased to store the key when you are out and about such as the Defender signal blocker. These are widely available in Halfords and are priced at around £5.

The wiper problem you have sounds quite complex and I would need more information on this. You mention the wipers work only with the key out, even in the off position. If you are saying that they don’t work with the key in the ignition this could be a body control problem, but if they do work normally in use, but you have discovered they will also operate when the key is out, then this may be due to a park failure in the motor.
