Q I have recently purchased a 2019 SEAT Arona 1.0 FR. The car came with a tyre inflation kit, which I am not a fan of. I want to replace it with a 16-inch space-saver wheel. 16-inch is the maximum size the boot wheel well will accept. I already have the jack, brace etc, so I only require the wheel. Space-savers have a code number on them 91V 92T, etc. What would be the required number for an Arona? The tyre size on the car is 205/55/R17 V.

Also, the car has a flat spot/delay as you pull away. I have read that this a trait of the VW TSI engine or does it need a software update?

A The tyre side marking 91V or 92T, etc., only refer to the load and speed capabilities of the tyre, and do not reference which space-saver you will need. As the maximum speed allowed on the space-saver is 50mph, the speed rating has no relevance, and the weight rating (91 = 615kg) should be far above the requirements of your vehicle.

The outer diameter of an 18in space-saver will be the same as that of a 16in normal road wheel, so the spare wheel well in your Arona should accept a 17in space-saver which should have the same outer diameter as your present road wheels.

The important factors when purchasing a space-saver are the PDC, the centre bore and the offset.

The PDC (Pitch Circle Diameter) on your SEAT is 5 x 100. This indicates that there are five wheel bolts in a 100mm diameter circle. The centre bore on your SEAT is 57.1 and this indicates the hole in the centre of the wheel that needs to locate on the hub flange is 57.1mm. The offset is less important with a space-saver as they are slimmer but the offset on your Arona is 48.

Checking Autodata there are no common problems that occur with your Arosa that indicate a software update may be required, but as the vehicle is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, then a visit to the dealer may be worthwhile.
