MODULAR WORKSTATIONS
▶ If you have over £1000 to spend, then a modular workstation has got to be the answer for a dream workshop. Adding more shelves, cabinets and cupboards is inevitable as your range of tools and equipment grows. Whilst it’s useful to have the ability to add more storage, it’s also essential to know whether parts can be replaced if they become damaged, such as a worktop or a lock. Sealey for instance, sells separate locks, drawer runners and locking mechanisms for its range of modular industrial workstations shown below. It also sells the drawers, worktop and back panel separately, should you want to add more or build up gradually. Draper’s Bunker range was launched this year and is also a modular design, so it can be expanded with more cabinets, cupboards, shelves and drawers. Prices start at £1400 for an 11-piece setup (called a Modular Storage Combo) and increase to around £2200 for a 16-piece set. Features include adjustable feet to deal with an uneven floor, soft-close drawers, gas struts fitted to lift up cupboard doors and a 10-year warranty. Draper explains that they stock spares for every item in this range, including wearable parts, such as locks and drawer runners. BIGDUG’S modular storage system ranges in price from £1209 to £1419 (on offer at the time of writing, but usually £1439 to £1669) and is two metres wide with an assortment of up to seven drawers, five cupboards (including overhead), a pegboard-style back panel for hanging tools and a full-width worktop. With 10 different combinations of design, based on the number of drawers and cupboards, this workstation takes up the same amount of space whatever you choose.
