Airbag fault

-

Q

I’m hoping you can help with this problem. My 2006 Saab 9-3 1.9 TID has the airbag warning light on – the error code I get back from op-com is B010308. I believe this is coming from the front airbag sensor. What I don’t know is, where is the sensor and how do I get at it. This error code has been on and off for a couple of years but now stays on permanently. I also noticed that when it came on in the past the weather was cold and damp.

I’m guessing this may indicate a connection issue rather than a fault in the sensor itself.

The code B0103-08 refers to Electronic Frontal Sensor circuit. This is the impact sensor which is fitted behind the front bumper. From the data I have on your Saab, two sensors are fitted behind the bumper just below each headlamp. The most likely scenario is as you have mentioned that this is a connection issue although due to the exterior position of the sensors it may be a sensor fault. I would remove the front bumper and locate the sensors.

Then I would unplug and clean the two connecting plugs before refitting them. This should hopefully remedy the problem. After removing and refitting the plugs the ignition should be turned on and left for one minute before then checking for any codes.

I received a reply from Ed.

I got the bumper off today, and located the airbag sensor. As I disconnected it the plug just fell apart in my hand. Looks like corrosion on one of the pins has blown the plug. Unfortunately, it took one of the pins off the sensor as well. I guess I’m looking at a new sensor and a plug and some wiring and then solder it back into the existing two wires. Saab parts are now getting hard to get hold of. I’ll also need to drill out the two bolts holding the sensor on as corrosion has banjaxed the Torx head.
