Digital dash
Q You guided me through a problem with the ABS on my 1993 3.0 24v Senator and were spot on. I now have an issue with the digital dashboard. It has power to it as it illuminates and responds to the dimmer below the headlight switch.
However, it displays no information. The speedo is blank, fuel gauge, etc., is also blank. The rev counter is blank but has been since I bought the car. The trip computer knows how many miles left in the tank. I noticed a couple of weeks ago the dash going blank and almost instantly coming back on and going through a self-check sequence like when you turn on the ignition.
It is now blank all the time. It is a stunning car with extremely little rust and only 55k on the clock. If I could see it.
Chris Jenner A I suspect that the problem may be with the dash itself, but before dismissing the problem as the dash I would first remove it and ensure that the connecting plugs are good. The problem may be as simple as a high resistance in the circuit and removing and cleaning the connecting plugs at the rear may remedy this.
If there is no improvement after cleaning the connecting plugs then the next stage would be to try a hard reset. This should be done as follows:
▶ Disconnect both battery terminals and then turn on the ignition. Now place the two battery terminals that have been removed from the battery together for a short time, around 30 seconds should be enough. This will effectively drain any capacitive charge retained in the dash causing it to need to reset once the battery has been reconnected.
▶ Before connecting the battery backup, ensure that the ignition key is removed then connect the battery positive terminal first, then the negative terminal. Turning on the ignition will then power up the dash and may restore it.
If this does not have any effect, then a repair will be needed – this company https://bit.ly/cmvqddr do specialise in digital dash repair and may help you.
