Headlamp dance
Q I have a 2013 Skoda Yeti 2.0 TDI 110bhp Elegance 2WD. It’s a late, pre-facelifted model with separate fog/driving lamps. The Bi-xenon lights both work perfectly and turn when going around corners, having performed the ‘dance’ when switched on. The issue I have is when using high beam, the left-hand light seems to switch between high beam and low beam, often when turning left, but not exclusively.
Is there any pointer you can give me to look at before I start delving? I do have Ross-tech’s VCDS and no fault codes are showing. The car has done 107,000 miles. Rob Clay-parker A
The headlamps are fitted with a self-diagnosis system so any major fault should leave a code, but as yours does not I would suggest two areas that may be worth checking.
As the problem appears to occur when cornering I would start with the cornering and range control unit located beneath the passenger glovebox. After removing the glovebox you should see the cornering and range control unit sitting on the dash panel cross-support.
I would first check the condition of the connecting plug, looking for any burnt or corroded terminals that may indicate a problem in that area.
If all appears to be in order then as your problem appears to be confined to the left-hand headlamp, I would check the performance module on the lefthand side, checking again for any signs of a poor connection to the terminals. This is located under the headlamp.
Whilst in the area of the headlamp I would check that the range control motor is firmly fixed and connected, and that when operating it is not causing any of the connections within the lamp to flex too much.
