RACING LAMBOS
A brief history of one-make Lamborghini racers, from Diablo to the latest Huracan Super Trofeo
The new one
Huracan Super Trofeo Evo 10th Edition Commissioned to celebrate a decade of Super Trofeo action (wealthy types racing V10s with the same care and manners as a stag-do karting trip), the 10th Edition is autographed by Lambo top brass and comes with a custom OMP race suit.
The irst rear-drive Huracan
Huracan Super Trofeo (2014)
Within moments of announcing the all-wheel-drive Huracan road car came this: the 152kg lighter, resolutely rear-drive racing Huracan. The sweet rear-drive, roadgoing Huracan followed, albeit without the racer’s abundant 610bhp.
The irst Super Trofeo
Gallardo Super Trofeo (2009)
The Super Trofeo’s a monster now, with series in Europe, America and Asia, but it started here, with a handful of identical Gallardos racing at the Adria circuit in 2009. The series prompted a road car, the Super Trofeo Stradale, in 2012.
The irst one
Diablo SV R (1996)
A pivotal moment in the development of modern GT3 racing, the irst Super Trofeo race ran in support of the ’96 Le Mans 24 Hours, masterminded by Stéphane Ratel, sports car racing’s Steve Jobs. A grid of 32 V12s? Be still our beating hearts.
