I was brought up in the faith, reading CAR since I was a 10-year-old in the ’80s, stealing my dad’s subscription as soon as it came through the door. But I’m starting to question the motoring creed, having just read September’s hot hatch test.

No issue with your verdict: the Type R is still the best you can buy, followed by the Fiesta ST. The shock for me was the cost quoted for the Golf R. How anyone can justify spending almost £50k on a Golf is beyond me. I would hope anyone considering spending that amount would have the sense to buy something like the BMW M2 Competition that Georg Kacher captured perfectly in the September issue. Great that you covered all budgets of cars within the article. Personally I took your previous advice and bought myself a twoyear-old manual M135i, which keeps my faith strong.

Rant over. Now, where did my 10-yearold put this month’s CAR?!!
