What’s inside the Taycan? And what’ll it cost?

-

The four-door Taycan is expected to be offered initially in three strengths, just like key rival Tesla’s triple-tier choice with the Model S. With power outputs of around 396, 529 and 661bhp, they will correspond roughly with – in 911 terms – Carrera, Carrera S and Turbo spec.

It will have four-wheel-steer capability and be all-wheel drive, although it’s believed that a lighter, less powerful rear-drive version is being tested.

The most powerful Taycan will have a top speed of at least 155mph, a 0¨62mph time below 3.5sec and a range of more than 300 miles. But Porsche is keen to stress that it’s not just about the figures; electric power lends itself to rapid acceleration, but the Porsche DNA also involves class-leading handling and braking feel.

The Cross Turismo version – its actual name has not yet been announced – did not, we’re told, go down well with US focus groups, who would have preferred a full-on SUV, but that will not deter Porsche from sticking to the concept car’s proportions.

Two-door coupe and cabrio versions are also understood to be under development.

How much for a Taycan? Expect to pay around £60,000 in the UK for the base model, subject to Brexit sending everything haywire before then.
